product news continued Totally-enclosed Explosion-proof Motors A New Evolution in Bolt Security Baldor Electric's totally-enclosed explosionproof motors are designed for use in the dust-filled explosive atmosphere of an underground coal mine. Tight machining tolerances of the housings, bearing brackets and the conduit box provide the explosionproof integrity required by MSHA and other international certifying agencies. Cast iron conduit box parts along with packing glands and protective hose connectors meet the requirements of ATEX, IEC and MSHA and other certifying agencies. These motors are designed to be maintenance-free and to operate safely and efficiently in a hazardous and severe environment. www.abb.com Nord-Lock added a new dimension of safety to bolt security with the launch of its X-series washer. X-series combines NordLock's wedge-locking protection against spontaneous bolt loosening (due to vibration and dynamic loads) with an exclusive spring effect that protects against slackening due to settlement and relaxation. This combination makes the X-series a multifunctional solution—offering high security for critical joints, without compromise. Each washer pair has cams on one side and radial teeth on the opposite side to secure the bolted joint with tension instead of friction. The Nord-Lock Xseries washers' conical shape also creates an elastic reserve in the bolted joint to compensate for the loss of preload and prevent slackening. www.nord-lock.com/x-series-video Dust Collector Filters A new HemiPleat eXtreme nano fiber filter from Camfil Farr Air Pollution Control (APC) offers high filtration efficiencies and greater durability with better resistance for pulse-cleaning. These advantages can extend filter life and reduce operating and energy costs associated with industrial cartridge dust and fume collectors. The standard eXtreme media delivers MERV 15 efficiency—higher than the base media rating of MERV 10. Also available is a high efficiency (HE) MERV 16 eXtreme media that delivers tested efficiency of 99.99% on 0.5 micron and larger particles by weight. A proprietary tri-layered technology is used to apply two layers of fine-pored nano fibers that act as a pre-filter to the base media, capturing most of the dust at the surface before it embeds in the filter. This technology increases the filter's cleaning ability and allows the base material to have larger pore sizes than standard cellulose media—reducing pressure drop while 50 www.coalage.com allowing the eXtreme fibers to provide a superior efficiency layer. www.camfilfarrapc.com Hand-held Infrared Oil Analyzer The FluidScan Q1100 hand-held infrared oil analyzer from Spectro enables users to determine when oil is no longer fit for use due to liquid contamination or degradation. The compact instrument provides direct, immediate measurement of water, total acid number (TAN), oxidation, glycol, total base number (TBN) and other parameters via Spectro's patented Direct Infrared Spectroscopy (DIR) technology. DIR operates without wet chemistry and requires no solvents; only one drop of oil is needed for analysis. In addition, the unit's patented flip-top design speeds test preparation and cleanup. The route-based capability of the FluidScan Q1100's operation allows the device to virtually eliminate mislabeled samples and long wait times for laboratory analysis. The results highly correlate to TAN and TBN laboratory tests conducted with ASTM D664 and D4739 titration methods and water tests with the ASTM D6304 Karl Fischer Titration method. www.spectroinc.com March 2013
