56 www.coalage.com July 2015 Michelin Earthmover recently introduced a new mining tire for 250-ton haul trucks and said it could increase hauling produc- tivity at least 24%, based on ton miles per hour (tmph). The new tire, the XDR250 50/80R57, was developed to fit Cat 793F and Komatsu 830E AC haul trucks. According to Michelin, it features signifi- cant technical advancements: greater load capacity, lower operating temperature, faster driving speed, higher level of perfor- mance for improved productivity and longer life cycle. "Rigid dump trucks are the lifeblood of open-pit mining operations. These tires need to deliver maximum productivity, safety and durability to eliminate down- time," said Jamey Fish, director of earth- mover marketing for Michelin North America. "This tire carries a 67-ton nomi- nal load capacity at a faster speed with a longer life cycle. Michelin is delivering solutions that can increase mine prof- itability through lower operating costs." A new tread pattern incorporates smaller rubber blocks crossed by grooves that opti- mize air flow and cooling. The tire runs 17°F cooler in the crown, allowing it to carry a heavier load at the same speed or to increase the average operating speed. To match the growing capacity of this new generation of machines, the XDR250 contains an additional 9.2% in air volume. The tire has an integrated sensor system that measures both tire pressure and tem- perature. Real-time alerts are sent to the mine's operator in the control room to noti- fy in the event that a tire is overheating or is over- or underinflated so immediate action can be taken. Komatsu Lands Major Haul Truck Deals Adani Mining Pty. Ltd. awarded Komatsu with an order for a total of 55 haul trucks (960E-2s and 930E-4SEs) for delivery in the second half of 2016 for use at its Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, Australia. The Carmichael coal mine will be one of the world's largest coal mines. Adani Mining in Australia is part of the Indian Adani conglomerate, and the Carmichael project represents a part of the Adani Group's large project to bring the ener- gy supply chain of mine, railway, ports, ship- ping and electricity production in India together in one conglomerate. According to Adani, the reliability of Komatsu's mining equipment and its product support capabili- ties lead to the award. This announcement follows the news that Suncor, a Canadian oil sands miner, signed a five-year agreement to purchase 175 haul trucks from Komatsu. Both of these mining operations were interested in the autonomous haulage sys- tem Komatsu has pioneered. The compa- ny's FrontRunner autonomous trucks recently surpassed a milestone of 330 mil- lion metric tons (mt) of material moved. The FrontRunner trucks run completely autonomously — they are not remotely controlled — with a full truck fleet able to be monitored by single controller located up to thousands of miles away. The trucks oper- ate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, deliv- ering significant safety, productivity, reliability, performance and operational benefits to mine fleet owners. Xylem Offers Pumping Solutions Microsite Xylem recently introduced an online des- tination for mining professionals, show- casing the company's range of system solutions and application expertise to solve the most challenging water issues in the mining industry. The microsite is designed to help mining professionals address water accessibility, transport and quality challenges in even the most remote regions, where water can either be overabundant or scarce. The online resource (mining.xy- lem.com) provides information on solu- tions to support open-pit mines, under- ground mines and material processing. "Global mining operators require reliable service, high-quality products and fast response from their solutions providers," said Nate Maguire, Americas director of industry and agriculture for Xylem's applied water systems business unit. "Our advanced technologies and experience in the industry enables us to deliver on these needs across myriad mining applications and in a highly efficient manner." Xylem's pumps, advanced treatment equipment, and precision analytics are engineered for severe applications that help mining operations minimize down- time, maximize performance and manage water in sustainable ways. The company's complete product offering provides water management options to producers across the mine exploration, development and operation phases. Sedgman Extends Contract With QCoal Sedgman Ltd. announced the renewal of its coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) operations contract with QCoal Michelin Introduces New Mining Tire The new XDR 250 50/80R57 from Michelin was developed to fit Cat 793F and Komatsu 830E AC haul trucks. s u p p l i e r s n e w s
