Coal producers requiring consistent coal blends and fuel quality can now use a next-generation online analyzer that offers a choice of two neutron-producing sources. Thermo Scientific's CQM FLEX coal analyzer can incorporate either an electrically driven neutron generator or Californium (252 Cf) as its neutron source. With the neutron generator configuration, the CQM FLEX analyzer can measure elements such as carbon, hydrogen and sulfur in addition to ash constituents. Additionally, the ana- lyzer can be reconfigured to switch to Californium as a neutron source, offering flexibility throughout the lifetime of the analyz- er. "Managers, quality control personnel and engineers at pow- er plants and coal mines must minimize variations in coal qual- ity to remain efficient and profitable," said Kevin Gordon, global marketing manager for prompt gamma neutron activation anal- ysis for Thermo Fisher Scientific. "We designed the CQM FLEX to accurately measure, and rapidly report on, levels of sulfur, moisture, total ash, calorific value and many other critical parameters, including ash elemental concentration, improving overall plant productivity." As a sampled stream analyzer, the CQM FLEX controls the flow of coal through the analysis zone, providing minute-by- minute elemental data on coal quality, enabling plant personnel to respond quickly to process variations and make corrective decisions. For power plants and coal mines in regions with complex and variable coal quality, the unit is designed to ensure that coal sourced from multiple suppliers is properly blended to meet specifications. www.thermoscientific.com/cqmflex Quick Install Belt Scale Superior Industries recently launched a new belt scale for dry bulk material handling applications. It has a flush-mount design, so owners and operators can avoid cutting or torching their con- veyor frame for installation. Superior said the scale will install without interfering with the existing conveyor frame. Engineers simplified installation further by designing a much sturdier weighbridge than the industry average. This robust design pre- vents any wobbling or tipping for a stress-free installation. Its integrator — constructed with a large color display — is designed with an easy-to-operate setup and adjustment wizard. The standard model integrator includes an onboard Ethernet port (wireless communication), two independent RS-232 serial outputs (for optional printer and/or scoreboard display) and a battery backup feature. In addition, the integrator is equipped with self-diagnostic's capabilities for operators to view setup parameters, load cell signals, I/O settings, speed sensor fre- quencies, angle sensor readings and calibration specifications. Using a modular design, Superior's brand new scale fits to belt widths up to 72 in. The unit is shipped with a scale-quality, Superior brand idler in CEMA class ratings of B, C, D or E. Each scale is designed with an accuracy rating of ±1/2% and is suited for dry bulk applications producing up to 3,000 tons per hour. www.superior-ind.com Submersible Pump The KZE series pumps are designed for the toughest appli- cations in coal mining. Features include a high-chrome agitator to prevent heavy solids from set- tling; an 8-in. ANSI side dis- charge; oil-lubricated double silicon carbide seals; winding protection and (NEMA) Class H motor insulation; and a semi- open hard-metal impeller de- signed to pass 1-in. solids. The KZE is capable of flows to 2,641 gpm and heads to 203 ft. www.bjmpumps.com 48 www.coalage.com November 2015 p r o d u c t n e w s Online Analyzer Enhances Quality Control The CQM FLEX analyzer has been designed to rapid report a variety of elements.
