40 www.coalage.com January 2016 Based in Beckum, Germany, Silobau Thorwesten has been awarded several por- tions of the tender to rebuild a large-scale power plant in Cottbus, Germany. The core piece of the order is a large-capacity silo and the controls for storing up to 1,430 m³ of pulverized lignite. The silo has a diame- ter of 9 m, a height of 40.5 m and it is 2-bar pressure shock resistant. The unit is equipped with a filter system and explo- sion doors. The explosion protection and suppression equipment for the silo were supplied by Thorwesten Vent. The tender also includes a facility for pneumatic loading into the silo and an affiliated discharging station for trucks. The discharging station is equipped with gas analysis equipment for smoldering fire detection including an inert gas sta- tion for immediate smothering of such smoldering fires. In compliance with the strongest safety standards, a truck laden with fuel can be discharged completely within 30 minutes. CSA Acquires Price Mine Service Jennmar's Compliance Staffing Agency (CSA) has acquired Price Mine Service. The transaction strengthens CSA's posi- t i o n a s a s t a f f i n g s e r v i c e p r o v i d e r f o r energy and industrial markets, adding W e s t e r n m a r k e t s t o i t s o f f i c e s i n t h e M i d w e s t a n d E a s t . F u t u r e e x p a n s i o n could include Southern Appalachia. "This acquisi- t i o n w i l l h e l p p u s h o u r n e w m i n e s e a l approvals that are yielding 15%-20% sav- ings in the material and installation to m i n e o p e r a t o r s i n t h e M i d w e s t a n d Western coalfields." Price Mine Service will continue serv- ing customers without interruption and will be led by veteran Steve West, who has more than 31 years of experience in the industry. "This move creates enormous growth potential for CSA and its new fami- ly of people from Price Mine Service," Calandra said. "We look forward to giving Price's existing customers continued out- standing service and adding to Price's already glowing portfolio." Price Mine Service founder and former President Jerry Carlson will remain as a consultant and assist Troy Dolan with the transition over the next six months. Cat Found Guilty of Stealing Trade Secrets Following an eight-week trial in Chicago, a federal jury found Caterpillar guilty of stealing trade secrets and ordered the company to pay Miller U.K. Ltd. $74 mil- lion, according to the Wall Street Journal. In a lawsuit filed five years ago, the Cramlington, England-based supplier accused Cat of misusing trade secrets obtained from Miller to produce a coupler used to attach buckets to excavators. Cat was Miller's largest customer until 2008, when it informed them that they would begin making their own couplers. Miller was forced to scale back production, lay- ing off 75% of its workforce. Coalview Achieves Milestones at Centralia C o a l v i e w c e l e b r a t e d i t s f i r s t y e a r a n n i v e r s a r y o f c o m m i s s i o n i n g t h e Centralia fine coal recovery (FCR) plant, which operates 24/7. "We are pleased with the progress our team has made at the Centralia FCR plant," said Roger Fish, C E O o f C o a l v i e w . " P l a n t c o n s t r u c t i o n was finished on time and on budget. In spite of several obstacles, we were able to achieve high efficiency along with high availability that is significantly better than industry standard." The Centralia plant represents a $42 million investment for Coalview, which applies technologies to recover fine coal by processing of waste materials. Upon c o m p l e t i o n o f m a t e r i a l p r o c e s s i n g a t Centralia, a large-scale environmental program will commence preparing the property for post-mining land use. Huesker Responds to EPA Coal Ash Regulations A s a l e a d i n g g e o s y n t h e t i c s s u p p l i e r , Huesker is keeping its finger on the pulse of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations regarding coal com- bustion residuals (CCRs).
