Cat's Autonomous Haulage Program Improves Shortly after its closest competitor an- nounced 2 billion metric tons (mt) hauled autonomously, Cat announced its auton- omous haul trucks recently reached the 1-billion-mt milestone. The company de- ployed its first six autonomous trucks Min- eStar Command for hauling in 2013, and the fleet has now grown to more than 150. "Command for hauling has proven its value to mining customers," said Sean McGinnis, product manager, Cat Mining Technology. "That value is reflected in the rate at which the Cat autonomous fleet achieved this milestone. The fleet is grow- ing quickly and production continues to climb as mining companies benefit from greater truck productivity, increased truck utilization, consistent truck operation and reduced costs. "No lost time injuries have been at- tributed to Cat autonomous haulage," McGinnis said. Command for hauling has demonstrated how it enhances safety by eliminating truck operating errors and by reducing the number of people working in the active mining area." The current Cat autonomous truck fleet is primarily composed of Cat 793F trucks, which carry a 227-mt payload. But the range of truck models is expanding. Caterpillar has developed and is deploying autonomous 363-mt Cat 797F and 181-mt Cat 789D haul trucks.
