Like current rock dust, it can be applied with the same methods and meets the standards of 30 CFR 75.2. With this especially engineered product, moisture does not absorb into the material creating a cake-like paste as seen with standard rock dust products in wet environments. Imerys' new product is more hydrophobic than conventional rock dust and does not absorb water as readily, allowing it to remain dispersible throughout the mine, from the roof to the ribs, to puddles of water on the floor, providing assured func- tionality in case of an explosion. The new product is designed to require less main- tenance and less refreshing for mine oper- ators, expecting to reduce costs and application time.
