"The knowledge that we could always rely on support from Wirtgen was a key factor in our choice of partner." www.wirtgen.com Heavy Duty XP Submersible Pumps The new XP-KZN heavy duty submersible explosion proof pumps were specifically designed for tough conditions where explosion- proof (XP), FM, C/US approved (Class I, Division 1, Group C & D) are needed. The pump has a robust design, making it able to out- perform and outlast standard wastewater predecessors in harsh environments, according to BJM Pumps. The top discharge and slim design allow for an easy fit into tight thin spaces. The agitator helps keep solids suspended in liquid and helps prevent the pump from clog- ging. The impeller, wear plate and agitator are made of abra- sive resistant 28% chrome iron (600 Brinell, 57 Rockwell C). The XP-KZN Series is able to pump a sump or pit down to within inches of the bottom. The unit can pump 665 gallons per minute and has a head rat- ing of 61 ft. www.bjmpumps.com Blast Monitoring Software Maptek's BlastLogic drill and blast accuracy management system reduces costs for mining operations. "Getting the fundamentals of drill and blast right every time is crucial," said Maptek Product Manager for BlastLogic Mark Roberts. "Better blast performance leads to better fragmentation, which in turn leads to easier handling and processing of excavated material. Improving fragmentation for example has a direct impact on 'digability' and can lead to shovel gains of up to 10%." Inventory management can be linked to blast results. A site catalog tracks and reconciles explosive received, dis- patched and used. This information can be easily referenced and analyzed to improve forecasting. The system supports blast-by-blast analytics, allowing comparison of blasts across the mine to correlate design, execution and results. www.maptek.com 200-Ton Toting Casters Hamilton Caster is well known for making heavy duty industrial casters — and now, one of the biggest. Hamilton recently designed and built four 100,000-lb capacity casters. Fully assem- bled, each caster towers 52 inches above the factory floor and weighs more than 8,000 lb. Together, they represent Hamilton's highest payload capacity ever: 200 tons. Each Colossus caster was designed with a spring-loaded suspension system to absorb shock. The swivel construction consisted of 32- and 18-in. diameter raceways flame hardened to 55-60 HRC with a total of (96) 1.5-in. diameter bearing balls. Each caster also featured an eight position swivel lock for direc- tional control, a huge 7 in. diameter oscillating axle to accom- modate uneven surfaces, and a foot-operated braking system. The massive payload required a 36-in. diameter by 20-in. wide extreme duty press-on tires with 4.5-in. diameter tapered roller bearings.
