As usual, the show will be held on the grounds at the Brushfork Armory-Civic Center in Bluefield, West Virginia. "Changes in policy, at the national and state levels, have provided the coal industry a much-needed boost allowing for further promotion, development and extraction of the region's leading natural resource," said Joshua Cline, president and CEO of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the show. "We are excited to offer what is truly a coal show for coal people in Bluefield, the heart of the coalfields." Cline said about 20 of this year's exhib- itors are new to the show. There will be a number of hands-on demonstrations, a high level of network- ing opportunities, and several technical seminars that will provide new details on methods, trends, and designs for a safer and more productive coal industry, according to Charles Peters, general chairman of the event since 1976. As of press time, the technical sessions were still being finalized, but they will start at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and will feature keynote speakers, Bill Raney of the West Virginia Coal Associa- tion and Harry Childress of the Virginia Coal & Energy Council. The show officially kicks off with the media breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Wednes- day, September 13. The keynote speaker will be National Mining Association Presi- dent and CEO Hal Quinn. He will provide a forecast and in-depth analysis on the state of the industry. A ribbon cutting to open the event will be held at 9:50 a.m. and doors will open to everyone at 10 a.m. Other schedueld events include an exhibitor's reception — a pig roast — on Tuesday, September 12 at the Quality Ho- tel and Conference Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the Monte Carlo Casino Night, which will be held on Wednesday, September 13 at The RailYard from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Anyone interested in these events should email the chamber at info@ bluefieldchamber.com.
