42 www.coalage.com July/August 2017 suppliers news CPSA Launches CoalProTec The Coal Preparation Society of America (CPSA) plans to host its first conference, Coal Processing Technology (CoalProTec), during April 23-25, 2018, in Lexington, Ken- tucky. The association has taken the action to fill a continuing education void created by Penton, when it decided to discontinue Coal Prep. For those involved in coal pro- cessing, 2017 was the first year in more than 30 years without a Coal Preparation Con- ference & Exhibition, more widely known as the Coal Prep show. Penton canceled the 2017 event, compounding the negative impact of the unwise decision to move the event to Louisville from Lexington in 2016. The CPSA has issued a Call for Papers (see the advertisement on p. 27) for CoalPro- Tec. The format for the new event will be similar to Coal Prep. According to Mel Lau- rila, executive director of the CPSA, the asso- ciation selected the name with the object of including areas outside those of traditional coal beneficiation, such as material han- dling and some aspects of coal transporta- tion and utilization. "The opening day of the event will allow exhibitors time to set up and the CPSA will hold educational workshops for prep plant operators," Laurila said. "Day two and three will consist of a keynote ses- sion and three technical sessions with pre- sentations on improving coal processing and handling operations." The CPSA plans to host CoalProTec ev- ery two years. For more information, con- tact Mel Laurila: qcinc@aol.com. Strata Acquires Precision Mine Repair Assets Strata Mine Services has acquired Precision Mine Repair Inc. (PMR) of Ridgway, Illinois. Established in 1995, PMR became a market leader in underground ventilation con- trol structures and mining construction services. Included in the acquisition is an EVG 3D EPS panel machine, which is used to fabricate the 3-D panels of the patented PMR ventilation seals and overcasts. Leveraging the solid market reputation PMR has acquired over the years, Strata plans to expand its market share by com- bining PMR's current footprint with Strata's range of product offerings and services. Ad- ditionally, Strata intends to establish a distri- bution network in the construction industry, using the 3-D EVG panels for the construc- tion of houses and commercial buildings. "This acquisition further increases our penetration and market share in the min- ing industry and also supports Strata's plan for growth and diversity into adjacent in- dustrial markets," said Mike Berube, pres- ident and CEO, Strata Worldwide. "PMR created a differentiated technology for ventilation control that has set them apart from other suppliers. Obtaining these as- sets and capabilities enables Strata to offer an even broader portfolio of products and services to its domestic customer base." Berube added that the market knowl- edge and product expertise that resides with PMR's resources will be a welcomed addi- tion to the Strata team. It will enable Strata to continue to support PMR's existing cus- tomer base after the ownership transition.
