44 www.coalage.com January/February 2018 product news Mack Offers Driver-focused Interior The Mack Granite model features an all-new interior developed to help drivers improve productivity. Designed through detailed in- put from thousands of drivers, the new inte- rior was developed to improve comfort and offer an ergonomic, driver-centric layout. "The new Granite interior offers the best working environment for vocational drivers," said Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Mack Trucks. "The Granite manages to handle even the most difficult tasks with ease, and it's critical that drivers have a surrounding environment that makes it easier for them to do their jobs in comfort." One of the premier features of the lay- out is the new flat-bottom steering wheel, a trucking industry first, enabling easier entering and exiting of the cab, as well as offering more belly room, the company said. The new steering wheel also gives the driver a better view of the dash, and can be equipped with illuminated cruise control, Bluetooth and audio system buttons. Mack Trucks said the new gauge clus- ter and dash layout in the Granite model improves visibility and readability. Fre- quently used controls are within reach of the driver's fingertips. Switches were repo- sitioned higher on the dash, and the Mack mDRIVE automated manual transmission shift pad is closer to the driver. The dash panel can accommodate 18 easy-to-read switches, which have laser-etched labeling for readability and to prevent them from being worn off, even with repeated use. An automatic temperature control feature was added to the HVAC controls so that air temperature is maintained once set by the driver. Cup holders and storage bins are now in a new lower cen- ter console, and both are easily removed for cleaning. Multiple 12-volt and USB charging ports are available throughout the dash, and a new non-slip pad on top of the dash features two USB charging ports. "Developing a more comfortable cab that was more ergonomic for the driver was a priority for us when we designed the Granite interior," said Tim Wrinkle, Mack construction product manager. "We lis- tened to the input from drivers, brought their insight in and the result speaks for itself when you get in the seat." A new 5-inch full-color display of- fering enhanced visibility and intuitive navigation were added to the Mack Co-Pi- lot display behind the steering wheel. Co-Pilot is a convenient way for drivers to monitor essential vehicle information, such as engine and oil temperature, odo- meters, aftertreatment status, tire pressure and more. The Pre-Trip Assistant function guides drivers through inspection points and offers a single person exterior light inspection mode. Co-Pilot controls are lo- cated on the updated right-hand steering column stalk. A new information and entertainment option, featuring a 7-in. touchscreen dis- play, is also available in the Granite mod- el, offering safe access to Apple Car Play, satellite radio, weather band radio and TomTom truck navigation. The display is also compatible with third-party backup camera systems. www.macktrucks.com Conveyor Belt Repair Kit The new Devcon R-Flex Belt Repair Kit can be used to coat splices on rubber conveyor belts, protecting them from damage and preventing them from catching on wip- er systems. The kit contains everything needed to make rapid repairs to damaged heavyweight conveyor belts, allowing their return to service in 90 minutes. An easy-to-mix hybrid polymer, R-Flex Compound has been formulated for in- creased flexibility to withstand flexing of clip splices, the company said. It can also be used to repair holes, tears, gouges, and damaged cold-vulcanized splices and to protect hinged and solid plate fasteners. The new formulation offers longer open times in hot climates and improved resistance to crack propagation. R-Flex produces a tough monolithic surface that protects clip splices and prevents damage that exposed metal clips can cause to wiper systems. In fact, R-Flex has been field-proven to extend the life of belt repairs, reducing subsequent damage to the belt and other equipment, the frequency of repairs, and plant downtime. www.devcon.com Horizontal End Suction Pump The Vertiflo 1400 Horizontal End Suction Pump has a rugged heavy-duty cast iron
