The first, New Plant Construction and Modifications, takes place on Tuesday afternoon, April 24. The first of five speakers is Dr. Peter Bethell, senior principal, Marshall Miller and Associates, who will discuss froth flotation with columns and conventional cells. Raymond Perr, director of business development for In- dustrial Resources, will present an innovative solution to aging infrastructure. Industrial Resources is an engineering, design, manufacturing and construction company. Perr will explain why the coal industry must spend its capital and maintenance dollars effectively to remain competitive. Another presentation will discuss the recent upgrade at Blue Mountain Energy's Deserado prep plant. Barry Slaton, presi- dent, General Mine Contracting, will discuss the common pit- falls with construction contracts. The session will close with two processing professionals from H22OS, Larry Watters and Chris Foley, presenting, "From Design to Operation, Impact of Mar- ginal Met Coals." Wednesday morning, April 25, opens with a session ded- icated to Advanced Coal Byproducts. "This is an R&D; ses- sion looking specifically at coal and coal byproducts and what other products can be derived from them and future products," Laurila said. "These projects are mostly in the pilot and develop- ment stages." CK Lane, COO, Arq, will present, "Energy Unbound." The company describes itself as a technology-led innovator applying new processes to extract pure energy from the waste produced as result of coal mining. Arq plans to produce the lowest-cost energy products, while cleaning up environmental liabilities. In her presentation, "Recovering Rare Earth Elements From Coal-based Materials," Mary Anne Alvin, technology manager, rare earth elements for the National Energy Technology Labora- tory (NETL), will discuss recent developments in an area of high interest.
