Released in 2010, StrataConnect is a wire-
less, battery-powered mesh communi-
cations, tracking and monitoring system
for underground mining. "It consists of an
underground network of individual, fixed
communication nodes that automatically
interact with one another in a self-forming
mesh infrastructure," Berube said. Both
Strata and third-party tech can be inte-
grated with the system to achieve two-way
data transmission between the surface
and underground operations, he said. The
system is MSHA IS approved.
One of the main selling points of
StrataConnect is cost savings, Berube
said. "The system offers a low-cost op-
tion for extending underground networks
without additional cabling or power," he
said. "StrataConnect wireless can be in-
terfaced into and fully operational with
existing infrastructures."
The network requires no pre-ex-
isting infrastructure and has minimal
componentry. "It is completely wire-
less and battery-powered from the
surface to underground locations," he
said, and requires "absolutely no hard-
wired backbone."
The network is ideal for coal mines
requiring "low cost communications and
tracking system to meet the PPL require-
ments," Berube said.
Strata Worldwide offers a warranty
and continuous customer support. "We
offer the AIR program, which is an All-In-
clusive Rental program for renting the sys-
tem as opposed to purchasing," Berube
said. "This includes installation, support
and maintenance."
