Holmes Safety Association (JAHSA) and Holmes Mine Res- cue Association awards ceremony was held on June 7. JAHSA began in 1916 to promote health and safety in the mining industry and consists of represen- tatives from federal and state governments, mining organizations and labor. The winners were: • Ival Van Horne Award: William York-Feirn - Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety. • William Hoover Lifetime Achievement Award: Frank Rabago - Ari- zona State Mine Inspector. • Woman of the Year Award: Kerbi Jacobson - Mine Safety and Health Administration. • Man of the Year Award: Glen Poe - Mine Safety and Health Administration. • National District Council Safety Competition for Surface Metal/ Nonmetal (Group II): Kansas Sunflower Safety District Council. • National District Council Safety Competition for Surface Metal/ Nonmetal (Group III): Greater Northeast District Council. • National District Council Safety Competition for Underground Metal/Nonmetal (Group III): Industrial Minerals District Council. • National District Council Safety Competition for Underground Coal (Group I): Scotty Groves District Council. • National District Council Safety Competition for Underground Coal (Group III): Anthracite District Council. • National District Council Safety Competition for Surface Coal (Group III): Industrial Minerals District Council. Holmes Mine Rescue Association Awards include: • Woman of the Year Award: Suzanne Disanza Drake - KGHM Robin- son Mine. • Man of the Year Award: Sammy Linville - Carmeuse North America. In addition to the safety association awards, the West Virginia State Council of the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association sponsors awards to promote safety in West Virginia coal mines and facilities.
